Units 1, 3 & 4 Greenwich View Place were three, 2-storey buildings located on a business park in London’s Docklands.

The proposed scheme involved demolishing the existing 3 x 20,000 sq/ft. office buildings and construct on the site an “L” shaped, 3-storey, state-of-the-art, Tier III+ data centre. Delivering a total of 5,000 m2 of “white space” @ 2.0kW/m2. Project value £20m.

Saradan were employed by the site developer as Clients Design Consultants, Technical Advisers and Project Managers through the whole project life cycle. Saradan produced concept schemes and feasibility studies, managed the whole building control and planning application process and obtained full planning consent for the project. As the clients Project Managers Saradan oversaw the detailed design, tendering, S&C construction and commissioning of the project that was completed mid 2017.

Key elements of the design:

  • Modular data hall design for phased fit out (8 zones)
  • Design PUE of 1.35
  • 4 x 4.0mVA 11kV power supplies (N+1)
  • 6 x 2.5mVA packaged substations (N+1)
  • 8 x 2.2mvA Diesel Generators (N+1)
  • 16 x 1.0mVA modular IGBT UPS (2N)
  • 10 x 800kW reciprocating chillers plus 12 x dry – coolers (N+1)
  • Diverse power paths and chilled water distribution pipe work systems.
  • Achieve BREEAM Excellent rating.

What next?

Following construction, Saradan then acted as Lead Designer and Project Manager on the design and approvals process for converting Unit 3 (building on the water) into the data centre administration office block with a 2nd floor link bridge and the ground floor becoming a plant room for a dock cooling system for the data centre, reducing PUE to 1.18.
